Year End Reflections

What I Learned in 2024 and What I’ll Carry into 2025

As I sit down to reflect on this past year, I’m filled with gratitude for the lessons I’ve learned and the experiences that have shaped me. Life has a way of surprising us, teaching us, and sometimes humbling us in ways we least expect. Here are the moments and insights I’ll carry forward into the new year.

1. It’s Okay to Be Me

This year, I finally embraced the truth that it’s okay to be unapologetically myself. For too long, I let the opinions of others weigh heavily on me, worrying about what they might think or say. But life is too short to dim your light for fear of judgment. I’ve learned to stand tall in my quirks, my passions, and my truths. After all, the people who truly matter will love me for who I am, not for who they think I should be.

2. My Husband Has More Than Three Friends

When we celebrated Michael’s 60th birthday in September, I was overwhelmed by the sheer number of people who showed up to honor him. Friends from every stage of his life—childhood pals, coworkers, old neighbors, and more—all gathered to share stories and celebrate the incredible person he is. Each person brought their own love and kindness, showing me how deeply Michael has touched so many lives. It was a beautiful reminder that our connections run deep and wide, and they’re worth cherishing.

3. Respecting Different Levels of Intimacy

One of the most profound lessons I learned this year is that we don’t know anyone better than someone else — we simply know them differently. My relationship with Michael is uniquely ours, shaped by years of marriage and shared experiences. But his family, his friends, and others also hold their own special connections with him. Each relationship has its own depth and meaning, and learning to honor and respect those bonds has been incredibly freeing.

4. The Joy of Plants and Animals

This year, I found myself drawn more deeply to the simple joys of nature. Whether it’s tending to my plants, walking with Lance and Gracie Mae, or simply watching the waves crash on the beach, these moments bring me an unparalleled sense of peace. Plants and animals have a way of grounding us, reminding us of life’s rhythms and the beauty of the present moment. They’ve become a cornerstone of my well-being, and I’m so grateful for their presence in my life.

Looking Ahead to 2025

As I step into the new year, I’m holding these lessons close to my heart. I want to continue embracing authenticity, nurturing meaningful connections, and finding peace in the little things. I’ll carry forward the love and kindness that surrounded Michael’s birthday, the respect for others’ unique relationships, and the joy that comes from the natural world.

Here’s to a new year filled with growth, connection, and self-discovery. Let’s make 2025 a year of living fully, loving deeply, and appreciating all the beauty life has to offer.

Happy New Year, my friends!
